Frequently Asked Questions
Isn't therapy the same as talking to friends/family?
Not quite. The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself from a set of fresh eyes.Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.”
How does it work? How are sessions structured?
Therapy usually starts with a consultation. Consultation is usually 15 minutes where I get to know you and you, me. We review logistics, how I practice and you get an opportunity to ask me any questions you have.
Sessions are structured by an intake (60 minutes), followed by subsequent sessions (50 minutes). In the first session, we determine your goals for therapy and a treatment plan. The length of therapy is dependent on the client.
Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
I offer telehealth sessions (virtual). At this time I am not seeing clients in person.
Do you offer a sliding scale ?
I do not offer a sliding scale at this time, only a reduced fee.
Do you see couples or adolescents?
I do not offer couples or adolescent counseling at this time.
